Awareness Message: Remembering the Timeless Valor of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji 01/08/2025 19:41 391 Every year, 31st July is solemnly remembered as the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji, a true hero of India’s freedom struggle. His fearless act of justice in 1940, avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by eliminating Michael O’Dwyer, marked a defining moment in the revolutionary history of our nation.
At Ramgarhia Polytechnic College, we believe that honouring our national heroes goes beyond marking a date on the calendar. It means carrying forward their ideals in spirit, in thought, and in the values we promote among the next generation.
Born in Sunam, Punjab, Udham Singh Ji was deeply affected by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919. His decision to wait patiently for over two decades before executing justice speaks volumes about his resolve, discipline, and devotion to India. His sacrifice in London on 31st July 1940 is a reminder that true freedom demands unmatched courage and unwavering will.
His words, “I don’t care about dying. It is my duty. I did it for my country,” continue to inspire every Indian to this day. By signing his name as “Ram Mohammad Singh Azad,” he also gave a timeless message of communal harmony and unity.
This message serves as a continued tribute to his undying spirit, encouraging students and staff to learn from his life — to be courageous in the face of injustice, united across communities, and loyal to the values that shape a free and fair society.
Ramgarhia Polytechnic College, Phagwara pays heartfelt homage to this immortal son of India and urges every individual to remember not just his act, but the principles he stood for.
This message is shared respectfully under the guidance of our Honourable Principal Madam.
